Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you’ve just passed your test, if you’re returning to riding, if you’re looking to build your confidence or looking to sharpen up on some specific skills, the coaching team are all here to help.

Below you’ll find answers to a range of questions about our courses, bookings, and what to expect on the day.

General Questions

We are a professional motorcycle training team providing high-quality, road-focused coaching for riders of all levels. Our instructors specialise in real-world riding techniques focusing on safety, confidence, and control in everyday environments.

Our training is designed for recently qualified riders who want to build their skills and experience, for motorcycle riders returning after a break, for intermediate riders looking to boost their road confidence, for experienced riders who want to refine their techniques, for anyone preparing for advanced tests, or who is considering going on a motorcycle tour. If you want to specifically improve your skills and confidence, Ridewise is the course for you.

Not at this time. We focus on post-test riders. If you’re a beginner, we recommend completing your CBT and full licence training first. And then come and find us and we’ll make you better!

You should have a license commensurate with the motorcycle you are riding on the course. This is normally an A2 or A license. Your license should be issued by the DVSA (or the equivalent foreign licensing authority in the country of residence and be 18 years or above) with the appropriate category clearly indicated.

This rather depends on the medication. Please seek your doctor’s advice as to whether it’s appropriate you ride a motorcycle and, if it’s OK with them, it’s OK with us. If you have any prescription medication that you need to take through the course of the day, please make sure this is present, and please find a moment to let your instructor know if you have any medical conditions they should be made aware of.

Yes, we have a number of female instructors, and these can be specifically requested.

Absolutely not. And please don’t be put off by this or nervous about it. Each coach has been trained in delivering courses for participants where English isn’t a first language, and we have a range of teaching skills and techniques which are specifically designed to include everyone on our courses, wherever you are from and whatever your level of English.

Yes, we run group courses for a number of manufacturers, brands, advanced riding groups and owner’s clubs. If you are interested in organising a group training day, please contact us at bookings@ridewise.pro and we’d be delighted to plan and deliver an event that meets your requirements.

We are currently working with Bennetts Insurance and a number of their underwriters to discuss potential discounts for riders who have completed a Ridewise course.

We always recommend being up to date with the Highway Code, and if you want to get ahead of some of the skills we advocate then The Police Foundation’s “Motorcycle Roadcraft” is a good book to read as it lays out a range of skills and techniques that the coaches teach through the course of a day.

Courses & content

Our standard coaching format is two riders per instructor. This ensures plenty of personal feedback while offering the benefit of observing another rider and learning together.

We have a number of training locations on our website, and we’re constantly adding more as the team expands. Please check our website for our latest list of locations.

Our comprehensive full-day course is designed for one coach to work with two participants, providing targeted, real-world training that is customised to meet your specific needs. Our approach is to work with you to build your confidence and we’ll be tackling a range of environments and skills including rural riding, cornering, and refining your overall roadcraft.

Yes, we do offer one to one training, and we’ll happily talk to you about what it is you’re looking to achieve and build a course that’s appropriate for you. One to one training is a little more expensive, but you’re guaranteed to have your instructor’s complete attention for the duration of the day.

We are happy for course bookings to be rearranged, or for places on courses to be passed to another person, however we do not offer cash refunds. Sorry! Also, if you do assign your ticket to another person then they need to qualify for the course in respect of having an appropriate license, motorcycle and personal equipment. Please check our terms and Conditions for the full details of our cancellation policy.

Our courses always start at 0900, (unless otherwise agreed), and we ask that participants arrive promptly. However, we’re well aware of traffic and various issues so please don’t rush, “Safety first!” The first part of the courses is introductions and a first briefing, so if you’re running a little late it’s not a problem!

You’ll appreciate a number of the team are working in the emergency services so their rosters and working patterns are fairly inflexible, however we will try to accommodate you as best we can. We ask for a minimum of seven days’ notice for rearranging a course in order that we can make the necessary arrangements. Just email us at bookings@ridewise.pro

On the day

Your motorcycle, clothing, wallet/purse, your keys, a copy of your license and proof of insurance is all you need to come on a Ridewise course. We’d also ask that you wear proper riding gear and arrive with a full tank of fuel. Thanks!

Each participant will receive real-time guidance on the road via our advanced Cardo communications systems and detailed feedback at key points throughout the day. All feedback will be tailored to your own personal goals and riding style.

Yes, all participants ride their own motorcycles, and it’s important that you ride a motorcycle you are familiar with in order to get the best out of your day. Having to learn about a new motorcycle and then a new set of skills can be a lot to take in, so please ride something you are familiar with.

We recommend you check a few items on your motorcycle just to make sure it’s in good condition ahead of you attending the course. We use the BOLTSS acronym, this being Brakes, Oil, Lights, Tyres, Steering and Suspension are all in good condition. POWER is also a good check, this being Petrol, Oil, Water, Electrics and Rubber. If you’ve covered these then you should be in fairly good shape!

Where the only legal requirement is for you to wear a helmet, please make sure it’s in good condition and that your visor is both legal and clean. We prefer our course attendees to wear suitable motorcycle-appropriate equipment. That includes a motorcycle jacket, gloves, trousers and boots appropriate for the weather conditions. If you wear contact lenses or glasses please make sure you’re wearing them!

We use pre-planned emergency services training routes that provide a range of riding environments ranging from urban, and suburban through to open B and A roads. These routes allow the coaching team to assess and teach a range of skills, and typically they range between 120 to 140 miles.

Yes, the training team all use the very latest Cardo communications, and they will install the speaker element of the system in your helmet before the first ride commences.

Absolutely! We don’t mind a little wet weather but please do check the forecast and dress appropriately. Wet weather practise is very valuable as it highlights a range of issues and skills that need to be considered when the weather isn’t so good.

Our riding programme makes sure we spend plenty of time briefing, riding, debriefing, and there are lots of breaks along the way too. We ask that you come to the course with a full tank of fuel in order that we don’t interrupt the flow of the day for other participants, but there’s always a fuel stop if we need one.

Each participant is responsible for their own food and drink costs, however, we have a number of pre-planned stops and friendly cafés who welcome us as a group and provide a good quality of food and drinks during the course of a day. They also provide a range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

Normally a Ridewise course finishes around 3.30pm, but this can vary depending on how the day goes, how many miles are covered, how tired you or other participants are, what the time of dusk is on a given day, all of which will help inform when the coaching team call an end to the day.

Our instructors are highly experienced advanced riders with professional training qualifications. They’re supportive, knowledgeable, and focused on helping you ride smarter and safer.
